Dr. Gerald L. Jones is a 30-year public servant, having spent the first 10 years of his career working as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician at Napa State Hospital and Sonoma Developmental Center. Since coming to Sonoma State University in 2000, Dr. Jones has held various leadership positions overseeing programs serving low-income, first-generation, underrepresented, and underserved students. These roles include the Director of Academic Services, Director of Upward Bound Programs, Senior Director for the Center for Academic Access & Student Enrichment, and currently the Interim Assistant Vice President for Student Access & Educational Equity. A “student-centered’ leader, Dr. Jones prides himself on removing institutional barriers that prevent students’ access, retention, persistence, and overall academic success in higher education.
